Merry Christmas to our family and friends!!

This year is very different from many years before...mostly due to this stupid Covid19 pandemic that refuses to disappear, and is forcing us into a province and nationwide lockdown over the 2020 Christmas holidays and beyond.  

However, it may not have changed much for me... only because I'm on a personal lockdown to fight off a weaken immune system due to the cancer treatments.  Although there are days where I feel strong and ready, there are also the days where I feel tired and weepy.  It is worse when looking at the dull days of winter through the window, knowing that my energy level is no where it should be to prepare for christmas, and even though somewhat pretty snow falling and christmas movies should envoke holiday spirit and cheer... it's hard to find this year; since my diagnosis, since my dad's passing, since enduring radiation and chemo treatments.  Knowing that christmas will be small, at least my mom will be with us on Christmas day!  Unfortunately, our North Bay family, and our New Brunswick and Alberta family will be far away but close through video and chat.  

The memories of Christmas past that warmed our hearts remain with us.  The gifts we remember the most are the ones given from the heart, and the time spent together sharing a delicious christmas dinner, and the noise of excitement of ripping open presents, the company of loved ones that come to call on christmas day, where we would enjoy some time to do crafts and play with our cousins in between the christmas meals.  Many fond memories... 

So this year, I prepared the christmas meal for our small group of three.  After opening our gifts, we just sat and talked, video chat with my brother and sisters from North Bay.  We had a nice day together, but we could still feel the void of missing our loved ones.

I wish both you and Pete a very Happy New Year and all the best in 2021 as well!! Yes, I feel that I'm heading in the right direction to cure this cancer. I hope this dreaded covid19 leaves us all behind so that we can plan a good time at the next family reunion! :)

    Hi there, I enjoyed seeing your Christmas photos. Did you do the painting of the candles and holly? Very nice! I also like your cat. I have a soft spot for cats as we always had one when I was a child. It was hard to get into the spirit of Christmas this year and you certainly have had a tough year. Glad your Mom could spend Christmas with you and Mike. Bob and I were alone for Christmas, the first time ever, and although we missed our family, we had a nice day. We wish you a happier and healthier 2021!

    Hi Linda. My Uncle Roy, dad’s brother, made the candles woodwork picture. He has passed now so it is a treasure of the season. Our Sassy is a source of entertainment and such a good cat. We appreciate the wishes. May you and Bob have a Happy New Year and all the best in 2021!!

    Glad to see your mom was able to be with you and Jean was not alone either. This pandemic needs to go but sad 😥 we do not know when.

5th Week Radiation & 6th Week Radiation Treatments

Friday, December 4th finished my 5th week radiation at Health Sciences North Sudbury, which also concludes my outside radiation treatments.  25 times to keep the bowel empty and fill the bladder, over and done with!!  Yahoo!!  I was so happy for the last day to come.  I know both Michael and I were glad to be giving up the dorm lifestyle, sleeping on the hard hospital bed, and closing the door to Room 208.  We both said "BYE ROOM!!"  As much as I appreciate having a place to call home while doing these treatments, I know I will leave this memory behind me for more favourable ones to come!   The one memory that I bring with me from this time period will be the wonderful people I have met here in Sudbury.  The hospital staff, hospital volunteers, doctors, nurses, and radiation therapists - they have all been so awesome!!  Kind, courteous, respectful, and a friendly face to a dark time in someone's life.  I would try to remember their names, and there were many!!  I made sur...

3 months cancer free

Here I am celebrating my 3-month cancer free milestone today, and I am three days away from my first post chemo treatment check-up.  I am expecting all good news... and making a bit of a vacation out of it since my check-up is in Sudbury.  It will become an overnight trip since I need to be at the Cancer Centre for 9am May 20th.  We are planning to fit in a Red Lobster take out supper into the trip too!!  At least, that's the plan.  We are both looking forward to some seafood to fill that East Coast cravings! April weirdo weather did bring May flowers.  My tulips were a pleasure to see, and my bearded iris are still yet to come.  I planted a rose bush so let's see how that works out.  Michael bought me a raised garden planter box.  I love it!!  I decided we would put some vegetables in there.  Seeded and ready to grow!!  It will prove to be great exercise this summer.  Just what I need as I continue to build my streng...

Happy Birthday to Me

This birthday would be bittersweet!  Birthdays are supposed to be fun and happy times.  As a friend reminded me, I used to celebrate my birthday for the month of September, well maybe at least for the week!  My birthday was always a celebration with family, friends, and coworkers, and most importantly with cake... yummy cake!!!  Oh there would be cake... but 2020 would be different.  There would be no feeling of joy this year!  I would cry most of the day.  I let the sadness of what I have lost come to the surface.  My first birthday without dad, and supposedly cancer-free!   Oh yippee, Happy Birthday to Me!   So I prepared my own birthday supper, my husband said that I was making him feel guilty, but it was something I wanted to do.   These were the carrots from my parents' garden, and the carrots that dad and mom brought to me the day before I left for surgery.  They were special to enjoy today.
